Mirpur district marks Youm-e-Ashura peacefully with religious devotion and tight security

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Like the rest of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Mirpur district observed Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, on Friday with deep religious reverence as thousands of mourners participated in Zuljinnah, Alam and Tazia processions to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

Four major Ashura processions were taken out in Mirpur city, Dadyal, Islamgarh and other parts of the district, passing through their traditional routes before concluding peacefully at their designated destinations. The central procession began from Markazi Imambargah Sadaat Colony, where strict security measures remained in place throughout the event. Volunteers of the Imamia Youth Wing conducted thorough security checks of participants before they joined the procession.

The district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Sajid Aslam Chaudhry, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Naeem Akhtar, Senior Superintendent of Police Khurram Iqbal, DSP City Sikandar Azam and other senior officials, implemented comprehensive security and administrative arrangements to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura.

Majlis-e-Sham-e-Ghariban was also held, during which mourners paid tribute to the martyrs of Karbala through the recitation of Nohas and Marsias in an atmosphere of unity, harmony and brotherhood.

Addressing mourners at Imambargah Sadaat Colony and Al-Raie Square, religious scholars and Zakireen, including Maulana Shafaqat Qumi, Maulana Abdur Razaq Jafry and Maulana Asjid Yazdani, highlighted the enduring message of Karbala, describing the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) as a timeless symbol of truth, justice and steadfastness. They urged Muslims to strengthen religious harmony, unity and mutual respect while drawing inspiration from the principles of sacrifice and righteousness exemplified by the martyrs of Karbala.
