Minor rescued after falling into open sewer in Layyah

MUZAFFARGARH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) A five-year-old boy narrowly escaped a tragic accident after falling into an open sewer in Layyah city on Friday. The incident occurred in Mohalla Eid Gah, where the child, identified as Muhammad Saleem, was playing outside his home when he accidentally slipped into the uncovered drain.

According to details, the sewer lid had been left open while cleaning work was underway in the area. Sanitation staff were reportedly present nearby at the time of the incident. Local residents acted swiftly and managed to rescue the child immediately, preventing what could have been a serious tragedy.

Rescue teams, security personnel, and district administration officials reached the scene soon after and initiated an inquiry into the matter.

Deputy Commissioner Layyah, Asif Ali Dogar, took immediate notice of the incident and expressed strong displeasure over the negligence. He stated that the individual involved in the cleaning work, identified as Akram, is a former employee of the Municipal Committee and was working in a private capacity at the time of the incident.

The Deputy Commissioner directed that strict action be taken against those responsible to ensure such incidents do not recur. Further investigations are ongoing.
