LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Tuesday chaired a meeting at the Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department to review development projects under the Nawaz Sharif Medical District and other key health initiatives.
Secretary Health Punjab Azmat Mahmood, Special Secretary Development Ahmed Kamal Mann, Additional Secretary Amira Bidar, Chief Planning Officer Fatima Noreen, and other senior officials attended the meeting. Health Economist Dr Adnan Khan and CEO IDEP Shah Mir, along with other officers, joined via video link.
The meeting reviewed progress on several major projects, including the establishment of academic blocks and hostels in Nawaz Sharif Medical District Lahore, a Centre of Excellence for Nursing Education in Rawalpindi, medical colleges in Okara and Bahawalnagar, and a Children’s Hospital in Rawalpindi.
It also discussed the establishment of a teaching hospital in Sialkot, burn units at Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawal Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur, as well as the expansion of critical care services in teaching hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the Punjab government was taking “historic and revolutionary” steps in the health sector. He noted that new ventilators were being procured for teaching hospitals, while MRI and CT Angio machines were being purchased at a cost of billions of rupees. He added that concrete measures were being taken to enhance hospital capacity and ensure provision of quality healthcare facilities at people’s doorsteps.
Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood said all ongoing health projects would be completed on time, adding that work on new initiatives was progressing at a fast pace and being closely monitored.
