Minister reviews progress on 1,530 development schemes

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) An important meeting regarding the Chief Minister Punjab’s Local Road Programme was held on Wednesday under the chair of Punjab Minister for Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth to review the pace of development works, ongoing schemes and assigned targets across the province.

Secretary Communications and Works Raja Jahangir Anwar, additional secretary, special secretary, chief engineers, superintending engineers (SEs) and executive engineers (XENs) attended the meeting, while officers from various districts joined through video link. The chief engineers gave a detailed briefing on 1,530 ongoing schemes under the programme.

During the meeting, Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth directed the authorities concerned to complete 600 link road schemes by May 30 and instructed officers to continue development work during the Eid holidays.

He also directed all officers to remain present at their duty stations during the holidays to ensure uninterrupted progress on the projects.

The minister said SEs would be responsible for ensuring completion of targets in their respective divisions, adding that additional labour and resources should be utilised to further accelerate the pace of work.

Expressing serious displeasure over slow progress in some areas, he warned that negligence or unnecessary delays would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against poor performance.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth reiterated that the Chief Minister Punjab’s Local Road Programme would be completed by June 30 at all costs in order to provide better travel facilities to the public.
