Minister reviews Muharram arrangements in Multan

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Minister for school education Rana Sikandar Hayat and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Salma Butt visited Multan on Wednesday to review Muharram-ul-Haram arrangements, security measures and facilities being provided to mourners.

During the visit, the minister and the special assistant inspected arrangements at the Imam Bargah Shah Shams Darbar and reviewed security, cleanliness and facilitation measures for mourners. They also visited the Central Control Room established at the Deputy Commissioner office, where they examined the monitoring system and received a detailed briefing on security and administrative arrangements.

Commissioner Multan Amir Kareem Khan and deputy commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique briefed the delegation on the security plan implementation and administrative preparations across the division.

Speaking on the occasion, Rana Sikandar Hayat said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had directed authorities to ensure exemplary arrangements for mourners during Muharram. He said all procession routes were being thoroughly inspected and screened, while mobile washrooms, clinics-on-wheels and facilitation camps had been established to provide maximum convenience to participants.

He added that the administration was actively working to ensure the provision of the best possible facilities and that a comprehensive emergency response plan had been devised to tackle any untoward situation.

Salma Butt said that the Chief Minister was personally monitoring Muharram arrangements on a daily basis and reviewing security measures across the province. She noted that provincial ministers were present in the field to directly supervise arrangements and ensure prompt resolution of public issues.

She said special measures had been taken for the convenience and security of women mourners, adding that mobile washrooms, mobile 'Sabeels' and mist spray machines had been introduced for the first time to facilitate participants in processions and gatherings.

The SACM further stated that all A-category processions and 'Majalis' routes had been linked with Safe City cameras and were under strict surveillance.

Commissioner Amir Kareem Khan informed the meeting that the Punjab Food Authority was regularly inspecting food and beverages being distributed during 'Majalis' and processions. He said facilitation camps, 'Sabeel' points and medical aid centres had been established along procession routes for the convenience of mourners.

Providing details, the commissioner said that a total of 3,173 'Majalis' and 907 processions would be held across Multan division during Muharram. He added that restrictions had been imposed on 79 speakers, while speeches of 59 others had been regulated in accordance with security requirements.

He further said that 22 sensitive locations and two flashpoints were under special surveillance with enhanced security arrangements. Control rooms had been made fully operational across the division, while 85 Sabeel points had also been established.

The commissioner observed that mist spray machines installed on the directions of the Chief Minister were proving to be a useful facility for mourners amid the prevailing weather conditions.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique said the Punjab government had granted full authority to district administrations to maintain law and order and added that to providing mourners with a peaceful environment, effective security and maximum facilities was a top most priority.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan informed that more than 12,000 police personnel and over 3,000 volunteers would perform security duties during Muharram.

The RPO added that an effective crackdown against hate material and provocative content on social media was also underway to ensure communal harmony and peace.

Officials said all relevant departments, including district administration, police, Rescue 1122, civil defence, health department and other agencies, were fully mobilized to ensure smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram across the division.
