Minister Iqbal briefed on one-year performance of Punjab law officers

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) Provincial Minister for Law Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan on Thursday visited the office of the Advocate General Punjab, where Advocate General Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz briefed him on the one-year performance of the province’s law officers.

During the briefing, the minister was informed about the handling of the province’s legal affairs, progress in key cases, effective representation of the Punjab government before courts, and developments in legislation.

The advocate general stated that significant progress had been achieved in cases pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Lahore High Court. Over the past year, the Punjab government secured favourable decisions in 77,219 cases.

He further said that effective legal measures led to the retrieval of 80,000 kanals of state land, generating financial benefits exceeding Rs467 billion for the public exchequer. Special measures were also taken to ensure timely preparation and follow-up of government cases, which significantly improved the disposal of state litigation.

The briefing highlighted that democratic practices within the legal community were strengthened through the successful conduct of lawyers’ elections in 36 districts of Punjab. Elections of the Punjab Bar Council were also held in a transparent and fair manner and were widely appreciated by members of the legal fraternity.

The Advocate General’s Office also played a role in drafting and reviewing several laws and rules. Legal assistance was provided in preparing the Punjab Public Awareness and Information Dissemination Act 2025 and in drafting the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025. The office also contributed to the review of the Punjab Forensic Science Authority Rules 2025 and the Punjab Law Reforms Commission Bill 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan appreciated the performance of the advocate general and his team, stating that the Punjab government had achieved notable successes on the legal front. He reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing a transparent, effective and democratic legal system.

The minister said the Advocate General and his team were playing an important role in safeguarding the province’s legal interests and effectively pursuing government cases, which was yielding positive results. He also assured law officers that their legitimate concerns and demands would be addressed.

Secretary Law Asif Bilal Lodhi, Additional Advocate General (Admin) Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz, along with other additional and assistant advocate generals, were also present on the occasion.
