SARGODHA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) A “Shot-Firer Training Workshop” aimed at improving the safety of mountain workers and miners was organised by the Mines and Minerals Department at Chak No. 119-SB, on Wednesday.

The session drew a large number of labourers, licensed shot-firers, and other industry stakeholders. Senior officials from the Sargodha Region Mines Department led the training, including Inspector of Mines Sargodha Region Mian Muhammad Afzal, Assistant Director (Training Branch) Jawad Ahmed, Junior Inspector of Mines Waseem Rizvi, and Engineer Muhammad Naseem Khan Niazi.

Addressing the participants, the officials underscored that the protection of mountain workers remains a top priority for the department. Detailed briefings were delivered on the use of modern safety equipment, proper mining tools, and essential precautionary measures to prevent accidents during excavation and stone-crushing activities.

“Most mining accidents occur due to workers’ negligence or the use of outdated techniques,” said Mian Muhammad Afzal.

He emphasized that adherence to professional drilling and blasting protocols, along with the use of complete safety gear, can significantly reduce life-threatening risks and help ensure a secure working environment.

During the workshop, instructors also provided practical demonstrations on the safe handling of explosives and proper shot-firing procedures. They highlighted that insufficient training in hilly terrain often leads to serious and avoidable incidents.

Chairman of the Hills Workers Union, Hafiz Abdur Rehman, also addressed the gathering. He thanked the Mines and Minerals Department for arranging the awareness session and outlined the challenges faced by mountain laborers. He called for the continuation of such initiatives to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern safety standards.

The workshop concluded with a hands-on demonstration of safety tools and equipment. Participants expressed appreciation for the informative session, noting that such training is vital for their professional development and personal safety.
