Met department warns of extreme heatwave

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) A new wave of extreme heat has been predicted across the country, the Meteorological Department has predicted heatwave conditions in different areas in the next few days.

Director of the Meteorological Department Irfan Virk said that most areas of the country may be gripped by extreme heat from Monday to the end of May.

According to Irfan Virk, the temperature is likely to be 5 to 7 degrees Celsius higher than normal in various areas of Central Punjab, South Punjab, Sindh, South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, due to which the intensity of the heatwave is expected to increase.

Irfan Wark warned the citizens that unnecessary outings during the day for entertainment or sightseeing should be avoided and if possible, travel or entertainment should be preferred in the evening or night.

He added that due to extreme heat, there is a possibility of melting glaciers and increasing water flow in rivers, so the relevant institutions also need to be careful.
