Media Literacy session held at SALU to counter misinformation

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) A media literacy session aimed at equipping students with skills to identify misinformation and promote responsible media use was held at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Wednesday.

Organized by the Students Societies Center, the session focused on fact-checking, fake news identification, news verification techniques, ethical communication, and responsible information sharing.

Facilitators Syeda Shumaila Rubab Rizvi and Sadia Larik led interactive discussions, with students practicing methods to assess online content and verify sources.

The event was held under the project “Strengthening Media Persons Capacity and Engagement for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” supported by the European Union and implemented jointly by CPDI and Individualland.

Coordinator Students Societies Center Dr Ali Raza Lashari said media literacy was vital for youth in the digital age. “Such initiatives promote critical thinking, peaceful communication, and responsible civic engagement,” he said, thanking the EU and CPDI for their support.

The session was organized on the vision of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Yousuf Khushk, who has emphasized informed citizenship for social development.

Students concluded the session pledging to promote responsible media practices and discourage the spread of misinformation.
