May heatwave to hit South Punjab and Sindh, expert recommends safety health precautions

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) An environmental expert issued a warning on Saturday, urging residents from South Punjab to Karachi and other areas to take extra precautions against the upcoming heatwave, as May is expected to be dry with temperatures ranging between 44°C and 47°C.

Speaking to a local media channel, Dr. Zulfiqar, an expert on environmental issues and climate research, warned that South Punjab is likely to experience a heatwave in May, similar to the extreme temperatures already affecting Sindh and Karachi.

He explained that, while there may be some light rain on May 4th and 5th, the overall weather pattern from May to June is expected to remain hot, with little to no significant rainfall. This, he said, will result in prolonged high temperatures, putting residents at greater risk.

Dr. Zulfiqar urged citizens to take precautionary measures as the heatwave approaches, highlighting the importance of staying cool and hydrated.

He advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the peak heat hours, wear light and breathable clothing, and ensure proper hydration to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The expert also stressed the need for special care for children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions, who are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.

He also recommended maintaining humidity in indoor spaces by placing water in wide pots.

With the dry conditions expected to persist, Dr. Zulfiqar cautioned that this could lead to water shortages and other environmental challenges.

He called on local authorities and communities to be prepared for the coming heat and take steps to protect themselves and their families during this intense period of heat.
