Maulana Idrees targeted by four terrorists, says IGP

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday took strict notice of the firing on renowned religious scholar Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees and formed joint investigation teams comprising the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and district police.

According to the initial report of the investigation team, Maulana Muhammad Idrees was targeted by four terrorists.

The teams have obtained images of the attackers with the help of Safe City cameras and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them. Talking to media here IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed said preliminary evidence suggests the incident was a case of target killing and those involved will soon be brought to justice.

The incident occurred earlier today within the jurisdiction of Utmanzai Police Station in Charsadda district, where four unidentified terrorists riding two motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of the well-known religious scholar.

Immediately after the incident, Maulana Idrees and two injured police constables were shifted to the hospital. However, Maulana Muhammad Idrees succumbed to his injuries on the way. The injured constables are currently receiving medical treatment.
