RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Mar, 2026) Rawalpindi Railway Station has been seen packed to its capacity with massive crowds, as passengers head home to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr with their families in villages and hometowns.
The station has witnessed an overwhelming rush amid the festive mass transit.
Special Eid trains have been operational, including services arriving in or departing from Rawalpindi to manage the high demand, with thousands traveling nationwide.
Pakistan Railways has announced four special trains on the occasion of Eid to facilitate passengers travelling to their hometowns, while ensuring improved services, cleanliness and security across major stations.
According to the details The special trains will operate on key routes including Lahore–Karachi, Quetta–Rawalpindi, Karachi–Peshawar and Karachi–Lahore, connecting major parts of the country and helping people celebrate Eid with their families.
The Lahore–Karachi train would depart at 19:30 hrs, while the Quetta–Rawalpindi train would leave at 10:00 hrs in the morning. The Karachi–Peshawar train would depart at 19:00hrs hrd and reach Rawalpindi at 13:15 hrs, whereas the Karachi–Lahore train would leave at 19:30 hrs and arrive the next day at 17:30 hrs.
Pakistan Railways has kept fare adjustments minimal to reduce burden on passengers. An increase of only 5% in economy class and 10% in business class have been made, however the passengers who had already booked their tickets prior to the notification would not be affected.
Assistant Transport and Commercial Officer, Pakistan Railways Muneeba Mumtaz said that the special trains were introduced under the directives of Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi to accommodate the increased rush of passengers during Eid days.
Railways authorities have directed the assistant and divisional officers to remain present at major stations to facilitate passengers, manage increased footfall and ensure cleanliness during the Eid rush.
Interestingly, Wi-Fi facilities have been provided at major stations including Rawalpindi being a smart station, while onboard internet services are also available in select trains such as Green Line and rail cars.
Pakistan Railways police have taken strictest measures at stations and onboard trains to ensure safe travel of passengers.
The Railway administration has urged passengers to report the relevant station before time to avoid missing the trains as huge booking has been experienced this year.
