ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) On the 1st anniversary of the victory of Marka e Haq and operation Bunyan ul marsoos, Senior Kashmiri leader Imtiaz Wani said that Pakistan’s response under operation Bunyan ul marsoos strengthened morale among Kashmiris living in occupied territory.

In an exclusive interview with APP, he told that despite India’s “continued oppression” in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the people of the territory remain emotionally and politically attached to Pakistan and continue their struggle for the right to self-determination promised under United Nations resolutions.

Mr Wani accused India of repeatedly blaming Pakistan for incidents occurring inside India and occupied Kashmir while, according to him, failing to address internal realities.

Referring to past incidents including the Samjhauta Express tragedy and the recent Pahalgam episode, he alleged that New Delhi attempted to shift responsibility onto Pakistan to justify aggressive actions.

Drawing parallels with the 2019 Balakot episode, he claimed India once again attempted to escalate tensions but failed to achieve its objectives.

Mr Wani maintained that demonstrations and public reactions in occupied Kashmir reflected support for Pakistan, adding that slogans expressing affinity with Pakistan continued to resonate among Kashmiris despite heightened restrictions and surveillance.

Recalling the late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, he said the sentiment of “Pakistan se rishta kya” still lived in the hearts of the Kashmiri people.

The Kashmiri leader also criticised sweeping curbs on freedom of expression in occupied Kashmir, alleging that social media, print and electronic media remained under severe restrictions.

He further claimed that several political and religious leaders associated with the Hurriyat Conference continued to face imprisonment.

Mentioning jailed human rights activist Khurram Parvez, Mr Wani said international human rights organisations had repeatedly called for his release but India had yet to respond positively.

He reiterated that Kashmiris are continuing their struggle for the right to self-determination, arguing that India itself had taken the Kashmir dispute to the United Nations and historically pledged that the people of the region would be allowed to decide their future.

Mr Wani said the people of occupied Kashmir remained committed to that demand despite decades of conflict and political uncertainty.
