LODHRAN:

A woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a domestic dispute in Lodhran, police said on Monday.

The accused reportedly slit his wife's throat with a knife after a quarrel and later called the emergency helpline 15, informing police about the incident and surrendering himself at the scene.

Police shifted the body to hospital for post-mortem examination and initiated further legal proceedings.

According to initial details shared by relatives of the accused, the victim, identified as Maryam, a resident of Haroonabad, had previously been married and had four children from her first marriage. After obtaining a divorce, she had married Osama, a resident of Lodhran, about one month ago in a love marriage.

The accused reportedly worked in Jhelum and had recently returned to Lodhran, while the victim had gone to her parents' home in Haroonabad with her children.

Relatives said that Osama went to Haroonabad to bring his wife back, where a dispute occurred between him and his in-laws, after which he returned to Lodhran.

They added that the in-laws later approached police in Haroonabad, while the victim returned to Lodhran with her children on Sunday, where tensions between the couple reportedly resurfaced.

On Monday morning, another altercation took place between the husband and wife. According to family members, the woman had gone out to fetch fodder for animals when the incident occurred.

When she returned, her son allegedly informed her that he had killed her mother with a knife.

The accused then called 15 and informed police before surrendering upon their arrival.

Upon receiving information, Acting DPO Rana Muhammad Razaq, DSP Saddar Circle Abid Hussain Bhalla and SHO Saddar Lodhran Aamir Nadeem reached the scene.
