Main procession of Hazrat Ali’s martyrdom day taken out in Karachi amid tight security

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) The central mourning procession to mark the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali was taken out from Nishtar Park on Wednesday and will culminate at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian after passing through its traditional route.

A comprehensive security plan has been put in place by Karachi Police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure safety of the mourners and maintain law and order in the metropolis.

According to the plan, a total of 5,213 police officers and personnel have been deployed across the city, including 19 SSPs/SPs, 53 DSPs, 755 NGOs, 4,244 head constables and constables, and 142 lady police officials.

Routes of the procession, entry and exit points, and return routes have been secured through route sealing, snap checking and continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras, while sharpshooters have been deployed on high-rise buildings along the procession route.

In addition, 100 commandos of the Special Security Unit (SSU) are performing duties along the main procession route and at other sensitive locations in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

A Special Weapons and Tactics team of the SSU has also been kept on high alert to respond to any untoward incident, while a specialised Command and Control Bus has been deployed alongside the main procession to monitor the overall law and order situation in the city.

Meanwhile, Additional IGP Karachi Azad Khan visited M. A. Jinnah Road to review the security arrangements for the procession.

During the visit, he inspected the procession route, security measures and the deployment of police personnel, and directed officers on duty to remain vigilant, further strengthen security arrangements and ensure all possible facilitation for the participants.

Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with security agencies, immediately report any suspicious activity to Madadgar-15 and follow traffic police advisories during the procession.
