LHC seeks reply on plea against three-month summer vacations

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday issued notices to the Punjab government and other respondents on a petition challenging the decision to close educational institutions for three months during summer vacations.

Justice Khalid Ishaq heard the petition filed by the All Private Schools Federation and sought replies from the respondents.

The petition contended that the Punjab government had issued a notification ordering the closure of schools and colleges for three months due to summer vacations.

It argued that the academic year in Pakistan had already been reduced to nearly 120 days, while countries such as the United States and England observe academic years of around 230 days.

The petition further stated that prolonged closure of educational institutions would seriously affect students’ studies, adding that no society could progress without education.

The petition requested the court to declare the notification regarding the three-month closure null and void and direct the authorities to limit summer vacations to six to eight weeks.
