The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday granted bail to Shafqat Hussain, the principal accused in the Libya boat tragedy case, and ordered his release against two surety bonds of Rs 500,000 each

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday granted bail to Shafqat Hussain, the principal accused in the Libya boat tragedy case, and ordered his release against two surety bonds of Rs 500,000 each.

Justice Syed Shahbaz Rizvi heard the bail petition filed by the accused, who sought his release in pending trial.

During the proceedings, counsel for the petitioner argued that there was no documentary evidence on record to establish that the accused had received any money from the complainant. The lawyer further contended that despite the case having been registered in 2023, the trial had yet to commence.

The defence maintained that Shafqat Hussain was arrested without justification upon his return from Libya and requested the court to grant bail.

After hearing the arguments, the court approved the bail application and directed authorities to release the accused upon submission of two surety bonds worth Rs 500,000 each.

The case was registered on the complaint of Mulazam Hussain, father of Anees, one of the victims of the Libya boat tragedy.
