Landslides on Karakoram Highway leave one dead, several injured

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) Heavy rainfall continued for the fourth consecutive day in different areas of Kohistan, causing landslides and flash flood conditions on the Karakoram Highway.

According to the local administration on Thursday, more than 20 vehicles have reportedly been damaged due to falling debris and landslides, while one person has died and some others were injured.

The landslides have disrupted link roads and communication systems, creating major difficulties for rescue and relief operations. Authorities have imposed a complete ban on all types of traffic beyond Bisham in Shangla until the highway is fully restored.

Hundreds of passenger and cargo vehicles remain stranded in Bisham. Continuous heavy rains and landslides have damaged multiple sections of the highway, leaving thousands of travelers including tourists, bus passengers and truck drivers stuck in the affected areas.

Stranded people are reportedly facing shortages of food, shelter and other basic necessities.

Meanwhile, the National Highway Authority and the Frontier Works Organization have deployed heavy machinery at several locations to clear debris and reopen the highway.
