Landlords served notices in Peshawar to vacate residences from illegal Afghans

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has intensified its crackdown on illegally residing Afghan nationals, while authorities in Peshawar have also issued notices to landlords renting out houses and apartments to undocumented Afghan residents.

According to officials from the Home Department on Sunday, the number of Afghans returning to Afghanistan has increased significantly as the government's repatriation deadline approaches.

Between July 11 and July 16, a total of 23,336 Afghan nationals, including women and children returned to Afghanistan.

Officials said that before the deadline, around 400 to 600 people were returning daily.

That figure has now risen to approximately 3,400 to 4,100 people per day.

The Home Department stated that 2,163 undocumented foreign nationals were detained during operations across various districts and deported to Afghanistan. In Peshawar alone, more than 600 Afghan nationals were arrested and repatriated during raids conducted over the past five days.

Authorities have also issued notices to landlords in different parts of Peshawar, directing them to immediately vacate houses and flats occupied by undocumented Afghan nationals.

The administration warned that legal action will be taken against landlords who fail to comply with the orders within the stipulated time.
