Lahore Traffic Police launch crackdown against overcharging, overloading

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) Lahore Traffic Police launched a major crackdown against overcharging and overloading by public transport vehicles and took action against 831 vehicles, imposing heavy fines on violators.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi visited Badami Bagh and Niazi Bus Terminal to review enforcement measures against overloading and excessive fare collection.

During visit, the CTO inspected drivers' licences, fare lists and route permits, and inquired from passengers about fares and transport facilities.

He announced the establishment of traffic help desks at bus terminals to facilitate passengers and create awareness regarding transport regulations. Shirazi said citizens would be able to immediately report complaints related to overcharging and overloading through the help desks and police helpline 15.

CTO Abdul Raheem Shirazi said transporters would not be allowed to charge fares higher than the government-approved rates under any circumstances. He warned that strict action would also be taken against transporters carrying passengers beyond the permitted capacity, including passengers seated on vehicle rooftops or inside vehicles in excess numbers.

The CTO further said only drivers possessing valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licences would be allowed to operate public transport vehicles.

He also clarified that carrying sacrificial animals in public service vehicles has been completely prohibited.
