Lahore: Plan to remodel historic Mall Road with modern tourist points

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Mar, 2026) A plan to create the best tourist points on Mall Road in Lahore city has been prepared, while its flagship has been taken up by PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif.

According to sources, district administration officers gave a detailed briefing to the PML-N Chief regarding the restoration and development of Mall Road.

Under the plan, cafe streets, walkways and world-class restaurants will be established on the Mall Road, while various tourist points will also be created while maintaining its historical identity.

According to the details, 100 percent restoration of the Danga Singh Building on Mall Road will be ensured. In addition, 136 historical buildings of the city, including Ganga Ram Mansion, will also be renovated.

As part of the project, the highway adjacent to the Lahore Museum will be converted into a tourist street, while a state-of-the-art cafe street will be established opposite the Lahore High Court to provide a combination of modern and historical environments for citizens and tourists.

It should be noted that even before this, the city's historic Mall Road Metropolitan Corporation had issued a work order for the restoration and renovation of the historic Mall Road. The historical and cultural importance of Mall Road Lahore is that there are many buildings located here that are examples of Mughal architecture. There are also buildings built during the British colonial era and that are still in use.

Decorated with monuments from two different periods, The Mall is undoubtedly a witness to history. Mall Road is home to a museum, Lahore Zoo, Punjab Provincial Assembly, Qurban Lines (Police), and Aitchison College.
