LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th May, 2026) Laboratory professionals are playing a pivotal role in saving lives through accurate and timely diagnosis in the modern healthcare system.
These views were expressed by Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal while addressing a ceremony organized by the Department of Pathology, PGMI/Lahore General Hospital, in connection with “Lab Week 2026” on Saturday. Prof. Farooq Afzal said that in modern medicine, a physician’s decision remains incomplete without laboratory reports. He emphasized that the professional expertise, integrity and tireless efforts of pathologists and laboratory staff play a decisive role in determining the right course of treatment for patients.
He announced that comprehensive measures would be taken to further upgrade the Pathology Department in line with international standards. He said priorities included the provision of state-of-the-art equipment, continuous professional training for laboratory staff and improvement in the quality of diagnostic services to ensure prompt and reliable healthcare facilities for patients.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Addressing the ceremony, MS LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain described the laboratory department as the backbone of hospital performance. He said such events not only boost the morale of staff members but also highlight their professional capabilities and strengthen teamwork.
During a briefing, the Head of the Pathology Department informed the participants that a total of 2,380,647 laboratory tests were conducted during 2025. Out of these, 714,194 tests were performed in the Emergency Laboratory to provide immediate diagnostic support for timely treatment of patients.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, honorary badges were awarded to laboratory staff for outstanding performance, while a cake-cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate the spirit of teamwork.
Principal Prof. Farooq Afzal expressed satisfaction over the department’s performance and appreciated the services of Prof. Dr. Nazish Saqlain and Prof. Dr. Farhan Rasheed.
The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Farhan Rasheed, Dr. Abdul Aziz, faculty members and a large number of healthcare professionals.
