KU, CTD signs MoU to offer internships, technical support

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Jun, 2026) The University of Karachi and the Counter Terrorism Department signed the memorandum of understanding at the Vice Chancellor Secretariat on Thursday.

KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and CTD Deputy Inspector General Police Capt. (R) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar inked the MoU documents.

As per the MoU, the CTD will offer internships to the students of KU’s Department of Computer Science to establish a collaborative framework for mutual academic, technical, and professional development.

The primary objective of the MoU is to foster institutional cooperation. The internship opportunities will provide students with practical industry experience through live projects, while the DSC will offer professional training and computer-related education to the CTD personnel.

According to the MoU, the students of the third and final years will be selected for the structured internship programs, which will focus on enhancing the students’ practical software engineering, data analysis, and technical learning skills.

The CTD will grant selected students the opportunity to work on real-world, live technological projects, giving them valuable industry insights and practical experience.

On this occasion, the CTD’s DIG Capt. (R) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar expressed that his department is willing to establish a strong liaison with academia. Besides our main work, we are also working on interacting with youngsters to reduce violent behavior and thinking among them, and the universities are the best platforms to engage with them.

The Chairperson of KU’s DSC Professor Dr Sadiq Ali Khan shared that the department will be assisting in the capacity building of the CTD officers through practical, high-impact training to ensure immediate technical readiness.

The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi mentioned that owing to the country’s geopolitical importance, we always face terrorist activities, and only committed and skilled forces equipped with the latest technology can address the problem.

He said that the CTD is one of the prime counter terrorism agencies in the province. He expressed that the DSC and the CTD have shown interest in preparing specialized short courses targeting modern computing tools, technical advancements, and data management for the CTD personnel.

He also said that the DSC is willing to initiate certificate and diploma courses for the CTD, and it will also conduct training and technology-based workshops tailored to the operational needs of CTD personnel in later stages.

The CTD’s In-charge Digital Forensic Zeeshan Omer, SSP Counter Terrorism Department Syed Irfan Bahadur, KU’s Dean of Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences Professor Dr Zaeema Asrar Mohiuddin, acting Dean of Faculty of Science Professor Dr Nasreen Fatima, DSC faculty members, Additional Registrar Arman Ahmed, Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization Dr Syeda Hoor Ul Ain, team ORIC and others were also present during MoU signing ceremony.
