KP orders two-day weekly closure of universities, colleges amid fuel crisis

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Mar, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has ordered all public and private sector universities, degree awarding institutions and colleges across the province to remain closed every Friday and Saturday for the next two months in response to the ongoing fuel crisis.

According to a notification issued by the Higher education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the decision was taken following approval in the provincial cabinet meeting held on March 9.

The directive, issued by the Secretary Higher Education Department, stated that the measure applies to all public and private universities, degree awarding institutions (DAIs) and colleges operating in the province.

Institutions have also been advised to adopt hybrid or online modes of instruction during the remaining working days, wherever feasible, to minimize disruption to academic activities.

Officials said the move aims to mitigate the impact of the evolving regional situation affecting fuel supply and prices.

The arrangements would remain in force for a period of two months or until further instructions are issued by the government.
