KP minister, advisor chair meeting on strengthening institutional capacity

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan, along with Advisor on Finance Muzammil Aslam, jointly chaired a meeting regarding the matters of strengthening institutional capacity through strategic human resource and budgetary support of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khalid Ilyas, Director General Excise Abdul Haleem Khan, and other officials from the Finance and Excise departments.

During the meeting, the Advisor on Finance was briefed on the professional responsibilities and key mandate of the Excise Department. It was highlighted that in order to effectively carry out revenue collection and anti-narcotics operations across the province without interruption, the department requires adequate financial resources and manpower.

It was emphasized the need to fulfill the operational requirements of offices, police stations, and excise squads to tackle these challenges efficiently.

The Provincial Minister informed the Advisor on Finance that Excise taxation offices and narcotics control police stations and squads need to be further strengthened to enhance their performance.

He stressed the urgent requirement of sufficient funds for fuel and other operational needs.

Additionally, detailed data regarding staff shortages in offices and police stations was also presented.

During the meeting, the Advisor to Finance directed that a comprehensive and effective mechanism should be developed to consolidate the collection of Excise and KPRA hotel sales tax under a single collection agency, ensuring that the revenue generated under this head remains within the Excise domain.

He further instructed that a case be prepared, on the pattern of the police department, for the provision of fuel to Excise police stations and narcotics control squads.

He assured that the Finance Department would extend maximum possible support to the Excise Department in meeting its financial and operational requirements.
