PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally decided to procure 225,000 tons of wheat directly from local farmers through cash fund, utilizing its own reserves.
According to a statement issued here on Saturday by Advisor to KP CM on Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, the provincial administration was committed to supporting agricultural community by ensuring that farmers receive full payment for their produce within 24 hours of delivery.
This streamlined procurement process was part of a broader strategy to eliminate delays and provide immediate liquidity to the province's growers.
Beyond supporting farmers, the government plans to utilize its official warehouses to their maximum 100% capacity. By stockpiling these reserves now, the administration aims to ensure that wheat and flour remain readily available and affordable for residents during the off-season.
This proactive storage strategy was intended to prevent artificial shortages and stabilize market prices, protecting consumers from volatility often seen in food commodity market.
Reflecting on previous successes, Finance Advisor said that similar timely interventions earlier this year led to a significant price correction. Before Ramadan, wheat prices dropped from Rs. 13,500 to Rs. 9,000, a shift that positively impacted flour costs not only within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but across other provinces as well.
He said that provincial government remains vigilant, having previously released wheat stocks to counter rising national prices and offset supply disruptions, including those allegedly caused by unlawful restrictions on wheat movement from other regions.
