KP govt to prepare payment plan for university land liabilities

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jul, 2026) A cabinet standing committee on Thursday directed the authorities concerned to prepare a comprehensive financial plan for the payment of decretal dues related to land acquired for public sector universities in Mardan.

The committee, constituted by the provincial cabinet, met under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam at the Higher education Department in Peshawar to review issues relating to the timely payment of decretal liabilities for land acquired for various public universities and educational institutions in Mardan.

The meeting was attended by cabinet members Mena Khan Afridi, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Muzammil Aslam, MPA Zahir Shah Toru, Higher Education Secretary Dr. Anbar Ali Khan, senior officials of the Law Department, district administration, and representatives of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan, Bacha Khan Medical College, the Agriculture University Peshawar, and other institutions.

The committee reviewed decretal dues relating to land acquired for Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, the Agriculture University Peshawar, UET Mardan, Bacha Khan Medical College, and Ameer Muhammad Khan Campus Mardan.

It stressed that all payments should be made transparently, in accordance with legal requirements and under a comprehensive financial plan.

Speaking at the meeting, Law Minister Aftab Alam said the provincial government was committed to implementing court decisions, safeguarding the financial interests of public institutions, and ensuring the timely payment of legitimate claims to landowners.

The committee directed the Deputy Commissioner Mardan, acting as the collector in the matter, to prepare a detailed presentation for the next meeting.

The presentation would include the principal outstanding amount along with payment options based on 2, 3, and 4 percent markup over four-, five-, and six-year repayment schedules.

The committee also sought complete details of the total land acquired, the number of landowners, payments made so far, outstanding liabilities, the overall financial estimate, and the remaining payment obligations to facilitate informed decision-making.

The Law Minister reiterated the government's commitment to the efficient use of public resources, timely fulfillment of legal obligations, and the resolution of financial and legal issues affecting development projects.
