KP govt introduces comprehensive policy for transgender community

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a comprehensive and historic policy for the transgender community aimed at ensuring dignity, protection, and equal opportunities across the province.

Under the policy, members of the transgender community will be provided access to health cards, social protection programmes, education and employment opportunities, technical and vocational training, and dedicated coordination desks at the district level. The policy also includes strong legal safeguards to protect transgender persons against discrimination, harassment, and violence.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Shafi Jan said that the policy reflects the vision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to build an inclusive and welfare-oriented society where marginalized segments of the population can live with dignity and security.

He said the provincial government is committed to mainstreaming the transgender community by removing social and economic barriers and ensuring their active participation in social and economic life.

“This policy is not merely a welfare measure but a rights-based framework designed to guarantee respect, equality, and long-term empowerment,” he added.

The spokesperson further stated that effective implementation mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the benefits of the policy reach the intended beneficiaries, adding that the government will continue to engage with stakeholders to strengthen protections and opportunities for the transgender community.
