KP Govt completes 2 mini-micro hydropower projects of 342 KW

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jul, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government completed two mini-micro-hydropower projects of 342 kilowatts in Upper Dir district, where cheap electricity has been provided to more than 1,300 households deprived of electricity.

The completion of both projects will benefit more than 7,000 people in the backward areas of Upper Dir district.

These projects will provide 24-hour electricity to the public free from load shedding. By the end of this year, 10 more mini-micro-hydropower projects of 2,445 kilowatts will also be completed. This will benefit thousands of the population of the district.

This was announced by the Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmed while addressing the inauguration ceremony of mini-micro-hydropower projects under the Access to Clean Energy Program in the backward areas of the province deprived of electricity under the supervision of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO), a subsidiary of the Energy and Power Department, on the occasion of his visit to Upper Dir District.

The mini-hydropower project (250 kW) completed in Siah Badrakani Dogdara area of Upper Dir District and the mini-micro-hydropower project (92 kW) completed in Jogi Kas Dogdara were formally inaugurated.

Meanwhile, giving a briefing on the occasion, Project Director Mini Micro Hydel Power Projects Engineer Faisal Dawar said that more than 1000 families will benefit from the Siah Badara Kanai project and more than 300 families from the Jogi Kas project.

Secretary Energy Nisar Ahmed said that the Energy Department is working on several small, medium and large projects to make maximum use of the natural resources of hydropower available in the province, which will prove helpful in overcoming the energy crisis in the province.

In addition, during the visit, 8 other ongoing mini micro hydropower projects were also inspected in Dir, including Dog Pain 75 kW, Tapandi 250 kW, Kalkot 200 kW, Thal Malo 250 kW, Munzdog 150 kW, Roghani Kalay 50 kW, Malok Khor 150 kW, Shringal 500 kW hydropower projects.

Moreover, the foundation stone of 700 kW mini micro hydel power project in Salul Union Council Sheringal and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal 120 kW micro hydropower projects were also laid, which will be completed in the second year. Similarly, the Energy Secretary also visited the site of Thal Kumrat 2.5 MW ongoing hydropower project of SRSP.
