KP govt accelerate pre- monsoon desilting operation

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) In line with the special directives of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, dredging and desilting operations are underway in major urban waterways across the province to improve water flow, reduce the risk of urban flooding and enhance the efficiency of drainage systems.

According to official sources, the initiative is part of the provincial government’s comprehensive preparedness measures ahead of the monsoon season.

The ongoing operations are aimed at removing accumulated silt and debris from key water channels to ensure the smooth passage of rainwater and prevent blockages that could lead to flooding in urban areas.

Officials said the operation is focused on ensuring uninterrupted drainage of rainwater during monsoon rains and safeguarding nearby residential areas from potential flood hazards.

The authorities have directed the relevant departments to expedite the work and complete the desilting process within the stipulated timeframe.

The government remains committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and minimizing risks associated with seasonal heavy rainfall through timely preventive measures.
