KP FS & HFA conducts province-wide bakery inspection drive

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KP-FS&HFA) has completed a special one-day province-wide bakery inspection drive.

During the inspection thousands of kilograms of substandard bakery products and cooking oil were confiscated and destroyed.

According to a spokesperson for the authority, food safety teams inspected 232 bakery units across the province and seized and discarded 5,641 kilograms/liters of substandard and hazardous bakery items, cooking oil and ghee on the spot.

The spokesperson said that 52 improvement notices were issued to food businesses for violations of hygiene standards, while fines amounting to approximately Rs1.7 million were imposed on several bakery units.

In Peshawar, food safety teams conducted inspections of various sweets and bakery outlets under the supervision of Director General KP Food Authority Kashif Iqbal Jilani.

During the operation, 200 liters of unsafe cooking oil and 300 kilograms of expired rusks and sweets were recovered and destroyed, while one bakery unit was sealed.

Under the same campaign, the food safety team carried out an operation in Nowshera Industrial Estate, where 2,200 kilograms of expired and mislabeled bakery items were seized from a bakery production unit, which was subsequently sealed.

In Swat, the food safety team recovered 115 kilograms of substandard bakery products from a bakery unit. The items were discarded on the spot, while fines were imposed and improvement notices were issued to the management.

The spokesperson further said that bakery units were also inspected in Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Abbottabad, Malakand, Charsadda, Buner, Mansehra, Swabi, Bannu, Lower Dir and Lower Chitral, where significant quantities of substandard bakery items were destroyed and penalties imposed for violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.

Meanwhile, the Malakand food safety team, during an early morning checkpoint at the Swat Motorway check post, intercepted a milk tanker carrying 700 liters of adulterated milk, which was discarded on the spot and a fine was imposed on the operator.

Speaking on the occasion, DG KP Food Authority Kashif Iqbal Jilani said the elimination of food adulteration and substandard food businesses from the province was the authority’s mission.

He warned that no leniency would be shown towards elements involved in food adulteration, describing them as a threat to public health.
