PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority has intensified operations against substandard, adulterated and unsafe food items across the province during Ramazan.
According to the spokesperson for the authority, large quantities of unsafe food items were seized during inspections in various districts while legal action was initiated against several businesses found violating food safety regulations.
In Mardan, the food safety team raided a minced meat production unit and seized approximately 8,000 kilograms of spoiled and substandard minced meat and meatballs. During a checkpoint operation at Wali Interchange, the team also recovered 5,000 kilograms of organ meat.
In another raid on a manufacturing unit, the team confiscated 70 cartons of expired instant drink powder, 30 cartons of mislabeled products, around 100 kilograms of cumin husk along with various food colors and suspected supplements allegedly being used for adulteration.
The Food Authority confiscated all the items and registered FIRs against the owners, initiating further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, in Mansehra, the food safety team seized 45 kilograms of spoiled yogurt and 60 kilograms of substandard meat which were later discarded on the spot. Notices were also issued to the responsible operators.
Similarly, in Aman Kot, Nowshera, a factory was raided where 1,200 liters of carbonated cold drinks were confiscated and the production unit was sealed. The owner was also fined heavily. In a separate action, a bakery unit was penalized for poor hygiene conditions.
Director General KP Food Authority Kashif Iqbal Jilani directed food safety teams to further intensify operations during Ramazan and warned that strict action would be taken against those endangering public health.
