PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2026) Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, here on Saturday, formally inaugurated the spring tree plantation campaign 2026.

During the current campaign, a target has been set to plant more than 20 million saplings in KP.

Under the Upscaling Green Pakistan Program, 18.3 million saplings will be planted, while 2.48 million saplings will be sown under the billion Tree Afforestation Support Program, according to a briefing by KP Forest Department to KP CM.

The mega plantation event will be held on March 23 with a target to plant more than one million saplings in a single day.

Full participation of youth, students, and the general public will be ensured in the mega plantation event.

Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi planted a sapling on the lawn of the Chief Minister’s House.

He said promotion and protection of forests are among the top priorities of the KP government and effective measures are being taken under a comprehensive strategy to improve the environment and increase forest cover.

"Due to our continuity and effective policy measures, there has been a significant increase in forest area in the province," said Sohail Afridi.

The campaign will prove to be an important milestone toward environmental sustainability.

Promoting forests is essential to tackle growing environmental challenges.

Tree plantation must become a permanent national habit rather than a temporary campaign, said the CM.

He said that without public participation and cooperation, no government effort can achieve the desired results.

All segments of society should actively participate in the tree plantation campaign to provide a better and safer environment.
