PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) A significant resolution on renewable energy, presented by Member of the Provincial Assembly Fateh-ul-Mulk Ali Nasir in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, was unanimously approved.

The resolution highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan in the context of the global energy crisis, tensions in the middle East, and the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz. It stated that achieving energy self-sufficiency has become an urgent necessity.

The house was informed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has immense potential for generating energy from hydropower, solar, and wind sources. By utilizing these resources, the province can be made self-reliant in the energy sector.

According to the resolution, the provincial government has been proposed to launch a hybrid renewable energy program under which an additional 1,000 megawatts of electricity will be generated in the near term.

The plan includes 600 megawatts of hydropower through small and medium projects in Chitral, Dir, and Kohistan 350 megawatts of solar energy from southern districts and 50 megawatts of wind energy from upper areas of Chitral.

The resolution also emphasized that the province has the capacity to generate far more energy, but keeping financial resources in view, this project should be initiated on a priority basis.

The assembly urged the provincial government to approve the project on an emergency basis and ensure its immediate implementation in the broader public interest.
