Kotli gets AJK’s first dedicated burn care center in landmark healthcare boost

Azad Jammu and Kashmir has taken a major step forward in specialized healthcare with the establishment of its first-ever dedicated burn care facility at DHQ Hospital Kotli

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir has taken a major step forward in specialized healthcare with the establishment of its first-ever dedicated burn care facility at DHQ Hospital Kotli. The state-of-the-art center has been developed by Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT), marking a significant milestone in the region’s medical infrastructure without any financial burden on the government exchequer.

The 20-bed facility, described as one of the most advanced burn units in the region, has been completed after three years of development. Officials said it will serve as a critical healthcare hub for nearby areas including Nakyal, Hajira, Poonch, and Haveli, where burn-related emergencies are more frequent due to geographical and situational factors near the Line of Control.

The center aims to provide timely and life-saving treatment to patients who previously had to travel long distances for specialized care.

A formal agreement between KORT and the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir ensures the facility’s operational sustainability, with the government responsible for staffing and recurring management costs. The center will function as an allied unit of DHQ Hospital Kotli, strengthening its integration into the public health system while maintaining specialized services for burn victims.
