Kohat administration launches major crackdown on overpricing, unhygienic meat sales

KOHAT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) The district administration on Sunday has intensified its market inspections to curb overpricing and ensure the sale of hygienic food items during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to APP correspondent, acting on persistent public complaints regarding the sale of substandard meat and inflated prices in the Bannu Road and Itwar Mandi areas, Deputy Commissioner Kohat, Muhammad Nawaz, directed a special operation against violators.

Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (HQ), the inspection team conducted strict checking of butcher shops. During the operation, unhealthy minced meat was recovered, cases were registered against the accused, and they were handed over to the police.

Local residents appreciated the timely action of the Deputy Commissioner and his team. Naib Tehsildar Miraj Khan stated that inspections would continue throughout Ramadan, urging citizens to report complaints at 0300-9151134.

In a separate action, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kohat, Hamid Iqbal, carried out an emergency visit from Gate No. 3 to Gate No. 2 of KDA Market to address public grievances and enforce official price control.

ADC (G) issued strict instructions to all shopkeepers to display official price lists, maintain high standards of cleanliness, and refrain from overcharging.

He warned that violators would face penalties without exception. Citizens were urged to report profiteering at 0922-9260032 and 0922-9260046.

Meanwhile, in another major crackdown, the district administration sealed several butcher shops for selling meat at prices higher than the government-approved rates. During the operation led by Additional Assistant Commissioner Dilnawaz Khan, 21 kilograms of substandard minced meat was seized and destroyed, and five customers were refunded the excess amount charged. Several shops were sealed, while others were fined and issued stern warnings.

Officials from the Livestock Department, Food Department, and other relevant agencies accompanied the inspection team. AAC Dilnawaz Khan reiterated that displaying the official price list is mandatory and that unjust profiteering will not be tolerated. He added that surprise inspections would continue across the district.

Public and social circles lauded the district administration’s swift and effective actions, expressing hope that strict measures would continue to protect consumers from exploitation during Ramadan.
