Mayor Murtaza Wahab begins a bold restoration of the UNESCO listed Chaukhandi Tombs. The project provides a global museum and preservation infrastructure in order to restore a lost heritage in Karachi. The location of the 15 th century funerary location makes it an international tourist destination where the historical and modern urbanism converge in the 2026.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab led the visit to Chaukhandi that launched the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s active planning for this long-neglected site. He declared 2026 the year for major heritage and urban development in Karachi.

The KMC focuses on four key areas. First, officials will build an international-standard museum on-site. It will display archaeological finds and explain the 15th–18th century carvings for researchers and tourists.

Second, crews immediately begin to build a fortification wall. This prevents urban sprawl and protects the territory.

Third, the plan enhances the access routes to the site-approximately 29 km east of Karachi- adds landscaping and constructs the spacious public-use facilities.

Fourth, technical assessments are done by experts. They use modern preservation methods in order to safeguard the structures of yellow sandstones against further erosion.

Mayor Wahhab also ordered officials to complete a detailed feasibility report as soon as possible. The management hopes to finish evaluation and commence apparent execution by the year 2026.

Chaukhandi Tombs have UNESCO Tentative World Heritage. The location has unusual funerary architecture, well carved -horsemen and weapons of peoples tombs, jewelry such as necklaces and anklets of females. It has blends of Islamic, Rajput, and Mughal. Jokhio and Baloch tribes have their tombs as the burial ground, which indicates the local power in the time of Mughals.

This step aligns with the recent heritage attempts of KMC in Karachi. The Denso Hall Karachi Metropolitan Museum, restoration of Lea Market building, and an upgrade of infrastructure in the areas of Mithadar, Kharadar, and Jodia Bazaar continue to be made.

The Chaukhandi Tombs reconstruction initiative is an indication of a new devotion to the historical sense of Karachi. It makes the site an internationally acknowledged heritage site by the domestic and international tourists.
