This initiative will not only highlight the national importance of Pakistan Day but will also prove to be an effective effort to realize the dream of environmental protection and green Pakistan.

Secretary Climate Change, Forests, Environment and Wildlife Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Junaid Khan said in this regard that this tree plantation campaign will be launched simultaneously across the province under the special vision of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”.

He said that this initiative of planting one million saplings in a single day will be the first and unique achievement of its kind which will not only be a symbol of environmental improvement but also a powerful symbol of awakening national consciousness.

He said that Pakistan Day actually commemorates the era when the Muslims of the subcontinent dreamed of establishing an independent and sovereign state through the Pakistan Resolution on March 23, 1940.

Keeping in mind the spirit of this historic day, KP government has decided to transform this national day into a “Green Era” this time so that the fruits of independence can be made safe and sustainable for the coming generations.

The Secretary further said that climate change has become a major challenge for the whole world and Pakistan is also among the countries that are being severely affected by its effects.

In such a situation, planting trees is not only a mean of protecting the environment but is also indispensable for clean air, better ecological balance and sustainable development.

He expressed the hope that this campaign will prove to be a milestone in promoting environmental awareness across the country.

On this occasion, Muhammad Junaid Diyar, Project Director of Ten billion Tree Tsunami Project and Focal Person of the March 23 Record Tree Plantation Campaign, said that the process of supplying saplings from the government nurseries of the Forest Department to all the districts of the province for this historic campaign has been started.

He said that the tree plantation will officially start at 9 am on March 23 and this campaign will continue uninterruptedly until the last sapling is planted.

He further said that a special software application and a modern dashboard have been arranged in the central control center for transparent monitoring and complete record of this historic tree plantation process. Through this system, the details of the delivery of saplings, planting locations and all stages of tree planting will be sent to the central center through mobile phones along with photos and live video.

In remote areas where internet facility is limited, the facility of offline data uploading has also been provided in this special application.

He said that all sections of society, including government institutions, educational institutions, district administration, Motorway Police, Pakistan Railways, local communities and the Pakistan Armed Forces, will participate in this record tree plantation campaign in a full-fledged manner so that this national campaign becomes a shining example of public participation.

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa believes that if every citizen considers a tree as his responsibility and protects it, then these plants will prove to be the foundation of a green, prosperous and environmentally safe Pakistan in the coming years.
