Khalid Magsi emphasizes reforms, transparency at CUI Senate Meeting

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Hussain Magsi, on Wednesday emphasized the need for strengthening institutional reforms, transparency and effective governance in higher education.

He was chairing the 9th Meeting of the Senate of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) at its Park Road campus.

The meeting was held on behalf of the President of Pakistan in his capacity as Chancellor and reviewed a comprehensive agenda covering academic, administrative, financial, and policy matters aimed at improving institutional performance, human resource management, and career progression mechanisms.

The Senate deliberated on strategic directions for investment and the introduction of Open and Distance Learning programmes to enhance skill development and expand access to education.

Discussions also focused on institutional reforms and the provision of electronic voting in statutory bodies to improve efficiency and transparency.

Financial and administrative matters were also discussed, including revisions in daily wage rates, scholarship regulations, and welfare measures for employees and their families.

The Senate approved recommendations regarding the appointment of key university officials and endorsed decisions of the Selection board, including appointments and promotions of Campus Directors, Principal Officers, and faculty and non-faculty staff. Approval was also granted for the affiliation of new institutions.

The minister stressed the importance of strengthening Senate sub-committees with the support of statutory fora to ensure effective oversight and decision-making.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Senate’s commitment to academic excellence, transparency, and institutional development in line with CUI’s vision to emerge as a leading center of higher education and research.
