Kashmir situation turns grave, EU Chief demands swift world action and responsibility

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th May, 2026) Chairman of the Kashmir Council EU, Ali Raza Syed on Sunday issued a strong and urgent appeal to the international community, calling on the world to wake up to what he described as serious and widespread human rights violations in Kashmir, including unemployment, unrest and alleged systematic denial of basic rights under occupation.

While speaking to ptv news channel, Ali Raza Syed described the situation in Kashmir as deeply alarming and deteriorating, claiming that the region is facing a prolonged humanitarian and human rights crisis.

He said that rising unemployment, unrest and alleged restrictions on basic freedoms have contributed to widespread distress among the population.

He further stated that, according to his assessment, every key sector of life in Kashmir has been affected, including education, healthcare and agriculture, which he described as being under severe pressure.

He warned that such conditions are worsening the overall socio-economic situation and pushing ordinary people into greater hardship.

Ali Raza Syed also alleged that human rights violations remain a serious concern in the region, insisting that the international community has failed to take meaningful action.

He called this alleged silence “deeply troubling” and urged global institutions to pay urgent attention to the situation.

He stressed that continued inaction could further aggravate the crisis, emphasizing the need for immediate international accountability and intervention, adding, the people of Kashmir deserve protection of their basic rights and an end to what he described as systematic suffering.

He concluded by urging the international community to take immediate notice of the situation and play its role in ensuring accountability and the protection of fundamental human rights in Kashmir.
