Karachi administration’s campaign against transport overcharging passengers continues

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) The Karachi administration’s campaign against buses, minibuses, and special coaches overcharging passengers is ongoing.

On the directives of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, action was taken against buses overcharging under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners in various districts.

In the last two days, fares were checked in 63 buses and Rs 14,800 was refunded to passengers.

In addition to that in Korangi district Rs 135,000 was imposed for violation of not showing the documents required including permits driving license of drivers etc. Six buses, four vans, and six rickshaws were also seized.

According to details On Tuesday, fares were checked in 52 buses, while on Wednesday they were checked in 11 buses.

According to a handout issued by the Commissioner’s Office, Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem submitted a report to Commissioner Karachi on Wednesday regarding actions taken in the ongoing campaign against overcharging.

The report stated that Assistant Commissioner Liaquatabad Sara Khan, in collaboration with the Traffic Police and Regional Transport Authority, carried out an operation on Wednesday. She checked fares of passengers in eleven buses and minibuses.

During the operation, excess fares were refunded from various bus operators found overcharging.

In total, Assistant Commissioner Liaquatabad refunded Rs 5,000 to various passengers in District Central.

According to the report, Assistant Commissioner Sara Khan imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 for violating official fares and overcharging, while one Mazda bus was seized by the Traffic Police on her directives.

According to the handout, fares were checked in 63 buses over the past two days. Passengers who were overcharged had their excess fare refunded.

In total, Rs 14,800 was refunded to passengers, while a fine of Rs 710,000 was imposed on bus operators involved in fare violations. One Mazda bus was also seized for violating the law and was handed over to the police.

According to the report of Deputy Commissioner Korangi Masood Bhutto, in Model Colony and Korangi sub division, permits and driving licenses of drivers were also checked along with excess fares in buses.

A total fine of Rs 135,000 was imposed. Six buses, 4 vans, and 6 rickshaws were seized, while 8 buses were checked in Landhi and Rs 3,000 was refunded to passengers.

In addition, Assistant Commissioner Garden Manshad Shahani refunded excess fares collected from twenty passengers.

Assistant Commissioner SITE Nida Saman and Assistant Commissioner New Karachi also took action against overcharging in their respective subdivisions and refunded excess fares to passengers.

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed all Deputy Commissioners to continue the campaign against overcharging, take action against those charging excess fares, and ensure excess fares collected from passengers are refunded.
