PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi replaces Kamran Tessori as Governor Sindh following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official nomination. The transition marks a significant realignment within the ruling coalition. After weeks of political pressure, the summary now awaits President Asif Ali Zardari’s final signature to formalize the provincial leadership change.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially nominated Nehal Hashmi as the new Governor Sindh during a high-level meeting at the PM House today. Prime Minister congratulated the veteran PML-N leader on his new role. This decision concludes the tenure of Kamran Tessori, who represented the MQM-P since late 2022.
The move follows intense scrutiny of the Governor House’s recent activities. Legal bodies, including the Sindh Bar Council, recently voiced concerns regarding partisan use of the constitutional office. The consensus among coalition partners grew rapidly, leading to this sudden but expected transition in Karachi’s power corridor.
Nehal Hashmi brings a long history of legal and political experience to the post. He previously led the PML-N Karachi and Sindh chapters and served as a Senator until 2021. Despite past judicial hurdles, his return as Governor Sindh signals a strategic move by the PML-N to consolidate its presence in the province.
The federal government has dispatched the official summary to President Asif Ali Zardari. Once the President signs the document, the province will witness the formal oath-taking ceremony. This change aims to stabilize the administrative neutrality of the office while maintaining the delicate balance of the current government coalition.
