IUB focused on AI, digitalization, research development: vice chancellor

BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran has said that the university was working on various projects to align itself with modern requirements, with the aim of providing students with quality education, advanced technology and state-of-the-art research facilities.

Talking to APP, the Vice Chancellor said that a modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab had been established at the university with the support of Pakistan Army's Bahawalpur Corps to promote AI education and research. He added that advanced research facilities were also being developed to encourage innovation and provide students with practical experience in emerging fields of science and technology. He said Artificial Intelligence was a key requirement of the future and the university was taking comprehensive measures to equip students with expertise in this field.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran said that links with national and international institutions were being strengthened, while special focus was being given to professional training programmes and industry partnerships to enhance students’ skills and create better employment opportunities. He further stated that the process of digitalization at the university was being accelerated to provide students with modern and convenient educational services.

Special measures were also being taken to improve education, security and facilities for female students. The Vice Chancellor said his vision was to make Islamia University Bahawalpur one of the leading universities in the country. He urged students to focus on modern knowledge, research and technology so they could successfully meet future challenges.

Talking about the region’s ecological importance, Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran said the Cholistan region had unique significance due to its diverse flora and fauna. He added that the Cholistan Institute, Department of Botany and Department of Veterinary Sciences at IUB were actively engaged in important research activities related to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. He emphasized that scientific research for wildlife conservation, provision of clean water and environmental improvement were pressing needs of the time, and Islamia University Bahawalpur was playing an effective role at the national level in these areas. In conclusion, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the cooperation of the people of Bahawalpur, students and faculty members, saying that collective efforts would help the university achieve new milestones of progress.
