Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has intensified its crackdown against electricity theft across its operational region, imposing fines amounting to over Rs 9.1 million on power thieves during April

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th May, 2026) Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has intensified its crackdown against electricity theft across its operational region, imposing fines amounting to over Rs 9.1 million on power thieves during April.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) IESCO, Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood, while sharing details of the anti-power theft campaign, said that operations were being conducted continuously and without discrimination in all operation circles to eradicate the menace of electricity theft.

He said that during April, more than 66,000 electricity meters were checked during special operations, leading to the detection of 87 electricity theft cases.

The CEO said fines exceeding Rs 9.1 million were imposed against 166,000 detection units, while several meters were disconnected and arrests of involved persons were also made.

Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood further stated that since September 2023, under the operation launched on the directives of the Government of Pakistan, a total of 6,837 electricity thieves have been fined Rs. 589.3 million, while 3,254 electricity thieves have been arrested. He added that 95 percent recovery from electricity thieves has also been ensured.

He said that IESCO is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft. He urged the public to support the Government and IESCO in this campaign and report electricity theft on the helpline 118 so that timely action could be taken against these anti-state elements.
