Iranian President's Pakistan visit to mark new chapter in bilateral ties: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday said the visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan would prove to be a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two neighbouring brotherly countries.

Talking to the media outside Parliament House, the minister said Pakistan-Iran relations were moving towards new heights, adding that the high-level visit would further enhance collaboration across various sectors of mutual interest.

Khawaja Asif reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to regional peace, stability and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue. He said Pakistan had played a historic and constructive role in reducing regional tensions and promoting peace, efforts that were being widely appreciated by the international community.

He noted that Pakistan's diplomatic initiatives had received recognition from the Muslim Ummah and Gulf countries, stressing that the country would continue to contribute positively towards peace, stability and development in the region.

Highlighting bilateral ties with neighbouring countries, the defence minister expressed confidence that Pakistan's relations with Iran would continue to strengthen, while reiterating Islamabad's desire for peaceful and brotherly relations with Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan had extended humanitarian support to the Afghan people for decades by providing shelter, education and employment opportunities, adding that these contributions should not be overlooked.

Referring to regional security, he said Pakistan remained fully committed to safeguarding its sovereignty and national security. He maintained that while Pakistan pursued peace, any act of aggression would be met with a firm and effective response.

The minister also asserted that Pakistan's growing diplomatic influence had enhanced its standing at the international level, saying the country's leadership had successfully elevated its global prestige through effective diplomacy.

He reiterated Pakistan's resolve to continue playing a constructive role in fostering regional peace, stability and mutual cooperation.
