Ayatollah Khamenei says his position carries immense responsibility and emphasises that Iranian people’s unity and resilience give him legitimacy

TEHRAN: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 12nd, 2026) Newly elected Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on Thursday delivered his first public message since taking office, pledging to avenge the blood of martyrs and warning that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to apply pressure on adversaries.

In an audio statement, Ayatollah Khamenei said his position carries immense responsibility and emphasized that the Iranian people’s unity and resilience give him legitimacy. He praised his predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for decades of struggle and sacrifice, noting that continuing this legacy requires public support and divine guidance.

The Supreme Leader highlighted recent acts of Iranian resistance, stating that the courage and vigilance of citizens and fighters had frustrated attempts by enemies to dominate or divide the country. He thanked those involved in defensive operations, asserting that Iran will continue its defensive and retaliatory measures.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the country will not abandon its right to avenge martyrs, specifically mentioning attacks on civilians, including the Shajara Tayyiba school, and vowed that justice will be ensured. He clarified that Iranian military strikes targeted only enemy-occupied bases and called on neighboring countries to close foreign military installations on Iranian soil.

He also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peaceful and constructive relations with its neighbors, while warning that any refusal to compensate for damages caused by aggression will result in the seizure or destruction of enemy assets. He further instructed that victims of attacks be provided free medical treatment and appropriate assistance.

The Supreme Leader’s statement signals a firm stance in ongoing regional tensions and comes amid heightened middle East instability, with global attention on Iran’s strategic moves and the potential impact on maritime trade routes.
