KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th May, 2026) Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in collaboration with the German Consulate General Karachi, hosted a special screening of the internationally acclaimed documentary “INTERTANGO: A Connection for Life at Studio II, celebrating the power of art, dance, and intercultural dialogue. Following the screening, guests participated in an engaging Q&A session with Director & Screenwriter Hanne Weyh, followed by an open dance floor and an introductory tango lesson for beginners.
The event brought together distinguished guests, art enthusiasts, diplomats, and members of the cultural community, with tango performances and the documentary captivating the audience throughout the evening. The screening was attended by President Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Mohammad Ahmed Shah, German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze, and the documentary’s director and renowned German filmmaker Hanne Weyh.
Addressing the audience, President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah warmly welcomed the German Consulate and all distinguished guests. He said that Pakistan and Germany share strong and longstanding cultural relations that continue to play a vital role in bringing the people of both countries closer together. He noted that through culture, fine arts, music, literature, theatre, and educational activities, both nations have successfully strengthened mutual understanding, harmony, and friendship over the years. He further stated that cultural exchange between Pakistan and Germany is not merely about promoting the arts but also about creating opportunities for younger generations to understand diverse cultures, engage in meaningful dialogue, and learn from shared experiences.

Referring to the documentary, he said the evening celebrated a remarkable story that reflects the unifying spirit of art and dance. Describing Tango as a universal language and “the language of the heart,” Dr. Schultze thanked President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah and the Arts Council team for organizing the memorable evening.
Through “INTERTANGO: A Connection for Life”, filmmaker Hanne Weyh presented Tango as a powerful intercultural phenomenon capable of transcending geographical and cultural boundaries. The documentary follows the journeys of Naoko from Japan, who becomes a Tango DJ in Buenos Aires; Iftikhar from Pakistan, who teaches Tango in Karachi; and Mela and Rodrigo, who struggle to balance their artistic careers with personal life — all connected through their passion for Tango. The screening formed part of the celebrations marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Germany and evolved into a vibrant celebration of cinema, dance, and intercultural engagement. Following the screening, an interactive question-and-answer session was held, during which Hanne Weyh shared insights into the making of the documentary and responded to questions from the audience, receiving enthusiastic applause and appreciation. At the conclusion of the event, President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah and German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze presented a bouquet to filmmaker Hanne Weyh as a gesture of appreciation and goodwill.
