International Women’s Day Observed at Shah Abdul Latif University

SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) A seminar on CNIC Registration and Voter Education was held at Shah Abdul Latif University in connection with International Women’s Day.

The event was jointly organized by Bhitai Social Watch and Advocacy (BSWA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Aurat Foundation, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Pakistan Women Leaders, and the European Union on Thursday.

District Election Commissioner Khairpur, Naeem Ur Rehman said that special efforts are being made to increase women’s voter registration through awareness sessions and mobile Registration Vehicles (MRVs) at census block level.

Dr Shahida Chandio stressed the need to provide women with strong political platforms to ensure inclusive participation. Prof Dr Taj Muhammad Lashari highlighted women’s fundamental rights including the right to vote, CNIC, and education, and called for eliminating discrimination, forced and early marriages, and promoting gender equality and increased representation in parliament.

Advocate Khalida Riaz, Advocate Aisha Khand, and Deepa Kumari emphasized constitutional protection of women’s rights and empowerment of women councillors to address community issues. Ali Sindhu highlighted accessibility for persons with disabilities at registration centers.

Dr Ali Raza Lashari presented the vote of thanks and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting awareness and social inclusion. Shumaila Rubab Rizvi conducted the proceedings. A large number of women and female students attended the event.

The project is funded by the European Union in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme and Aurat Foundation under the Pakistan Women Leaders Project, aiming to facilitate 12,000 women for new CNIC registrations across five districts of Sindh.
