BEIJING, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd May, 2026) A three-day international training workshop on climate-smart development concluded at the University of Gujrat on Wednesday, highlighting growing academic collaboration between Pakistan and China.
The workshop brought together researchers, faculty members, and students to explore solutions for climate change, including carbon neutrality strategies and sustainable development practices.
Expert sessions by Dr Wei Li Associate Professor at the Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University provided participants with practical insights into global climate frameworks and carbon management. Dr. Wei Li highlighted the growing global market for carbon credits and expressed willingness to support further training of Pakistani researchers, particularly at the PhD level.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq thanked Dr. Wei Li from Tsinghua University for visiting Pakistan and sharing his expertise with UoG faculty and students.
He expressed satisfaction over the active participation of faculty members and students from Botany, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Zoology, and Mathematics.
He also emphasized the importance of emerging areas such as carbon credits and encouraged faculty members to develop expertise in this promising field.
Prof. Dr. Audil Rashid in his closing remarks added that training sparked valuable research directions, including work on Pakistan’s carbon budget and participation in international carbon estimation initiatives. He described the program as a catalyst for future research and collaboration.
Dr. Rashid, who is also the Dean of Faculty of Science, extended his heartfelt thanks to the Higher education Commission of Pakistan for sponsoring the program and enabling meaningful academic exchange and research collaboration.
The event concluded with certificate distribution, with participants praising the training as a meaningful step toward strengthening climate research capacity and international academic partnerships under CPEC Consortium of Universities.
