Inter-district robber killed in police encounter

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) A suspected inter-district robber, allegedly involved in around 20 criminal cases, was killed in a police encounter in the jurisdiction of Ghulam Muhammad Abad Police Station late on Monday night.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident occurred after robbers allegedly snatched cash from a citizen near Sultan Town.

On receiving the information, SHO Inspector Yousaf Shahzad along with a police team rushed to the area and signalled four suspects to stop.

However, the suspects allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the police and attempted to flee, prompting a chase. Additional force headed by Tayyab later reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

Police said the suspects were repeatedly asked to surrender but continued firing.

The police retaliated in self-defence, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

After the firing stopped, one suspect was found injured while his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The injured man was shifted to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased was identified as Waqas, according to police, was a record-holder accused wanted in nearly 20 robbery and other criminal cases in Faisalabad and other districts.

Police claimed to have recovered weapons from his possession and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Further investigation was underway.
